We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, you should be able to:
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Historic Royal Palaces is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
We are aware of some accessibility issues identified during an independent audit. All critical and serious issues have been fixed. We are continuing to work on resolving the remaining moderate and minor issues, which include a small number of contrast, focus, and screen reader labelling improvements. We plan to address these as part of ongoing development updates in 2025.
Disproportionate burden
We have assessed the cost and impact of fixing all remaining minor issues immediately. We believe doing so before launch would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will reassess this as part of future development cycles and supplier renewals.
Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Some older third-party content and embedded media may not meet current accessibility standards. These are outside our direct control and exempt from the Public Sector Bodies (Website and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We are committed to continuous improvement. Accessibility will be reviewed regularly as part of our design and development process, and new content and features will be tested to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA where possible.
